2013-2014 WinterGuard
Hello! Welcome to my guard webpage! This winter season will be my 6th season spinning. This is my 6th season on flag. It will be my 3rd season on rifle, and 2nd on sabre.
This season, our song is "100 Years" by Five For Fighting. My instructors say it will encompass the journey of life. We will start in a small corner of the floor, and as the song, or life, goes on we will eventually be using the entire floor because you can always learn from the past, but never know the future. The goal of my instructors is to have everybody at some point in the show on all three pieces of equipment; flag, rifle, and sabre. Everyone will also be dancing. I'm excited to hear more about our show, and see how it evolves from an idea to an actual show. I believe this season will be great and can't wait to start!

Last night was WinterGuard's first official practice. It went well and I think we have a good group of girls. There are 9 veterans (we call them vets) who are either coming back from marching this past fall, or last winter. We also have 2 new girls. They seem excited, determined, and ready to learn. We spent most of our practice time learning dance, but we also touched rifle and flag. As much as I love winter and starting new seasons, I dread having to re-teach basics. Last night was different than any first practice I've been to. Learning rifle before flag is basically unheard of, which is what we did. Overall, I think this year we are going to make a great successful team!

As the season goes on, things change, and the remaining girls get better and more experienced. We are now a few weeks into the season and two new girls have quit. We now have 9 girls. Since the two new girls have quit, the two weeks we spent learning basics is now useless, since we all know how to do them. We have learned a lot of exercises on flag, rifle, and sabre. We have also done some dance warm-ups. On Monday night, we started to learn drill, which is where we move on the floor. I'm anxious to see how the show evolves and what work and drill we will have. After all, our first competition is in about a month!

Hello again! Tonight is going to be our first practice in quite a long time. Between snow days, vacation, and everything else, we haven't made much progress. I'm hoping we will learn more drill tonight, with our choreographer, Lennie.
2-4-14
Last night was supposed to be a practice for us, but got cancelled because of the bad weather. We got 4 inches of snow, and our school cancelled all after school activities. We may not have school tomorrow because of more snow, so we may not have guard then either. Our choreographer, Lennie, is supposed to be coming also, so I hope we just have a 90 minute delay. We cannot afford to have anymore practices cancelled; our first competition is only a few weeks away!
2-7-14
Hello! Wednesday night we did not have practice. We had a snow day, which cancels all after school activities. Also, Monday we might have no school for the weather again! We have to start having practices or we won't have a show...seriously.

Hi! I haven't written anything in a while...We now have a complete show! We finished it Monday night. It's pretty cool. I like it. We also had our first competition on Saturday at King Phillip Regional High School in Wrenthem, MA. We got 2nd place, out of two groups. We scored 78.21, and Wareham scored 79.72. That was expected, as we didn't even have a complete show. We walked across the floor for 7 sets. Like I said, we filled in the rest of our show on Monday at practice. I have a solo! :) My instructor wrote me a one-handed 45 toss! We have two competitions this weekend in Mansfield and our home show. We don't have competition in either, so we can just focus on improving our score.
